In the meantime-as the band Helmet might say-may I direct your attention to the site of an excellent locals-only furniture shop I stumbled upon in the Andersonville area of Chicago. The Haymaker Shop was full of great stuff, putting me on notice I'll need to stay sharp if I expect to compete for the custom furniture dollar here. I saw a lot of good furniture and interesting household items, priced reasonably. Staff/ownership were incredibly helpful to just some guy who came in off the street and started asking questions about their business and the furniture and retail scene here. If you are in town, definitely check it out. I'll be there tonight for an event involving food trucks.*

People often ask me where I get my reclaimed wood materials. One good source is Build It Green out in Queens. It works through donations of materials, so it can be hit and miss, but the staff is friendly and if you wanted to build a reclaimed floor joist shelf, say, I'm sure you could call ahead (with your measurements!) and ask if they have a suitable piece in stock. It is also just a great place to browse, they get some crazy stuff.

Chicago Bound!
For a myriad of reasons (and yes, that old cliche, the price of real estate, is the big one), we're moving to Chicago. In point of fact, the family has moved, and I have returned to Brooklyn to finish up the last outstanding orders and pack up the shop.

This Saturday will be a sort of Last Hurrah at the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene, where this all started. I'll have some things out to sell-including some reclaimed wood material that I just haven't been able to work into anything-but for the most part I just wanted to have a day to hang out and say "Thanks" to the Flea, my booth neighbors there, and The Throng that pass through every weekend and make it all possible.

Hope to see you there, and watch this space for more news on New York projects and Chicago plans, which are shaping up in a exciting new form.

Kitchen Set With Nesting Benches.

This kitchen set is made of reclaimed wood, mostly oak, with welded, blackened steel brackets, brass hardware and dowel joinery on the benches. Tung oil finish. The top is 29"x 39".

Just delivered this yesterday, after a short welder mishap delay.

The deliveries are a huge time suck, but seeing the pieces in their new homes, and watching a client get excited about what, for most of my clients, is the first handmade piece of furniture they own is a gas.

Tall Table for Gino

From 7/6/11
